Dear Valley Catholic School Community,

Welcome back to school! I hope you filled the summer months with relaxation, travel and memorable time with family and friends. Teachers and school staff have been hard at work during the past few weeks preparing to welcome students back to the classroom.

I would like to welcome back our returning school leaders: Music School Director Beckie Hocker, Early Learning School Principal Amber Ploussard, Middle School Principal Dr. Jennifer Gfroerer, and High School Principal Dr. Sara Bruins. They have been working hard this summer to make sure everything is in place for the new school year.

It is also my pleasure to introduce our new Elementary School Principal, Dr. Yvonne Ayesiga and Vice Principal, Kim Smith. Dr. Ayesiga served as VCMS Vice Principal for the past two years. Now, she steps into the VCES Principal role with a strong knowledge of our campus culture, proven educational leadership experience, and a close rapport with the elementary school staff and students.

Mrs. Smith has ten years of experience on the VCES staff as a teacher, math specialist and learning support specialist. Her depth of experience and leadership on the elementary school staff will support continued growth for staff and students. I look forward to a smooth transition into a productive new school year. Please join me in welcoming all VCS teachers and staff members back to school.

The VCS Gala, the school’s biggest community event and fundraiser, is also on the horizon. Gala will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11. Mark your calendar for this wonderful evening and do not forget your family donation for this year’s signature event. Family donations help underwrite fantastic trip opportunities and help the VCS Gala raise critical funds for students, teachers and programs. Look for more information in the Gala newsletters coming soon. Invitations will be mailed in late September – please join us!

We look forward to a very exciting year across campus. It is sure to be full of wonderful learning experiences and memorable moments for your children. Valiantly,

John Matcovich

The first week of school at Valley Catholic School was nothing short of a blessing. It was filled with a flurry of activities and meaningful events that brought the entire community together in celebration and unity. Check out this photo album capturing the Valiant spirit, excitement and achievement that define our community.

Valley Catholic High School was awarded the 3A OSAA Cup for the 2022-23 school year. This distinguished award celebrates overall excellence in academics, activities, and athletics. It is the highest award given by the Oregon School Activities Association. VC finished off the year with 3025.8 points, making this the seventh OSAA Cup award for the school. We’re so proud of our students, faculty and staff, coaches, administrators, and the entire school community for their dedication, passion, and hard work.

First-year VCS families – Welcome to Valley Catholic School
A welcome letter for first-time families from the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon Foundation (SSMO Foundation).

The SSMO Foundation collaborates with Valley Catholic School to support its high-quality, affordable Catholic education. They uphold the Sisters’ longstanding spiritual legacy through various programs and events. These efforts aim to maintain the Sisters’ community care endeavors and continue their legacy, which began more than 137 years ago. Read this letter from the SSMO Foundation.

On Friday, Sept. 8, the Office of Alumni Relations hosted the annual Alumni Tailgate. The event featured food, fun and friends as alumni caught up with former classmates, teachers, coaches and Sisters. Many alumni also brought family members, including spouses, parents and children, and happily introduced them to the folks that made their time at Valley Catholic so special. The tailgate was held before the first home match of the season for Valiant volleyball. Click here to view our photo album on Flickr.

The VCS Gala, the school’s biggest fundraiser of the year, is Saturday, Nov. 11, at NW Events in Hillsboro. Mark your calendars!

The VCS Gala is a community-wide event with a silent auction, followed by dinner and a live auction. Registration will open in late September.

To help us get started, we are asking every VCS Family make a donation of $25 or more to the Gala effort. Your support underwrites the procurement of fantastic trips, wine packages, and other highly valued items.

For more information, or to make your donation, check out the Gala website and watch for the weekly electronic issue of the Gala newsletter, arriving in your email inbox on Sundays, starting Sept. 17.
