On a day characterized by relentless rain, the OSAA 3A Cross Country State Championships at Lane Community College became a true test of endurance for the athletes who converged from all corners of the state.
The pouring rain didn’t deter our dedicated student athletes, who pushed through the challenging conditions with relentless determination.
Here are some highlights
The Valley Catholic Boys XC team, a powerhouse of talent and teamwork, delivered an outstanding collective effort, ultimately claiming the state title. Senior Morgan Armano made a lasting impression on the competition, clinching an impressive 6th place finish with a time of 16:38.0.
In the girls 5k race, Jaya Simmons won the individual title for Valley Catholic. Simmons pulled away from last year’s champion, Daisy Lalonde of East Linn Christian, to win in 18:20. Simmons was third as a sophomore last fall and was even with Lalonde as they passed the 2-mile mark.
Sierra Simmons relentless determination propelled her to an impressive seventh-place finish in the girls’ 5k race with a time of 20:03.4.
After a hard-fought semifinal match and loss against Sisters, Valiant Volleyball bounced back with an impressive 3-0 sweep against Santiam Christian, claiming the third-place trophy in the OSAA 3A Volleyball State Championships at Springfield High School.
Next up, VC Girls soccer set’s their sights on back-to-back 3A titles as they prepare to face league rival Catlin Gabel in the 3A Girls Soccer Finals this Saturday at Liberty High School.
It has been a fantastic fall sports season for VC athletics. Congratulations to all of our Valiant athletes and coaches for their tremendous accomplishments on the field, on the course, and in the classroom.
