Donate Gloves and Mittens in Observance of World Day of the Poor
The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon’s Social Justice Committee is inviting the local community to join them in observering World Day of the Poor on Sunday, Nov. 16.
The SSMO Social Justice Committee’s project, titled ’Hands On’ for the Poor, is to collect winter gloves and mittens to share with local organizations to distribute to people who need them. Local community members are encouraged to bring donations of gloves and mittens or financial donations for purchasing gloves and mittens.
Donations will be accepted between Nov. 3 – Nov. 14 at these locations:
All of the donated items will be part of the offertory presentation during the World Day of the Poor Mass on Sunday, Nov. 16 at the SSMO Motherhouse chapel.

World Day of the Poor was established by Pope Francis as a Roman Catholic observance in 2016. Pope Leo XIV declared the theme for the 2025 observance to be “You are my Hope” – the message and theme encourages Christians to see people who are poor as central figures of the Gospel and to work for justice and structural change.
