Solemnity of Mary
Holy Mother of God
Have you ever wondered why there are so many Marian feast days? It can feel like Mary is present everywhere, taking on numerous responsibilities. This can be relatable — there is often so much to do and seemingly little time to accomplish it.
Among all of the Marian feast days, the feast of Mary, Holy Mother of God specifically invites us to focus entirely on Jesus. This day is an opportunity to reflect on Mary’s profound “yes” to bringing Jesus into the world.
As we enter the season of New Year’s resolutions and fresh starts, it is a perfect time to consider a spiritual resolution as well. Why not take a moment to pray for a fresh start, shaping it into something meaningful for you? Embracing this practice can help bring clarity and purpose to your journey ahead.

‘The Memorare’
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.
As you begin your journey into the new year, take a moment to seek the intercession of Mary, the Mother of God. One effective way to do this is by reciting the Memorare, a short yet powerful prayer that beautifully expresses trust in her assistance. It serves as a heartfelt plea for her guidance and support during challenging times.
Whenever you find yourself facing difficulties or feeling overwhelmed, remember that you can always call upon Mary for help. In addition to the Memorare, you can recite shorter, spontaneous prayers that convey your needs with sincerity and urgency.
Here are a few examples:
“Blessed Mother, please pray for me.” This acknowledges her holiness and asks for her intercession.
“Mary, I could really use your help here!” This expresses your immediate need for support in a relatable way.
“Mother Mary, I’m having a tough day. Please pray for me now!” This conveys vulnerability and the desire for her comfort during difficult moments.
Mary understands our struggles and is always ready to listen to our prayers, offering her compassionate support when we need it most. Embrace the year ahead with confidence, knowing that you have a powerful ally in Mother Mary.
She gets it.
