Francis Butch Malec
Social Studies Department Chair and Dean of Students
8th grade Social Studies | Francis “Butch” Malec teaches 8th grade social studies, is the VCMS Social Studies Department Head, and serves as Dean of Students. During his career, he has worked at middle and high schools in California, New York, and Oregon as an administrator and football coach. He has also taught Latin, history and English. He holds an Ed.M. from Teachers College, Columbia University; an M.A. in Classics from the University of Texas; and a B.A. in Classics from Reed College. He has spent summers working on archaeological excavations in North Macedonia and Italy.
