Candles at Mass

Awaiting the Passion of the Lord

A Valentine from your Chaplain

What I truly admire about spiritual care at Maryville is witnessing our residents inspire and model loving, respectful growth within our community. The genuine displays of patience, grace, and faithfulness between residents and staff are uplifting. I have cherished the moments spent debriefing experiences with residents and enjoying meals with new friends; that is the good stuff and it happens here every day!

It is clear that something extraordinary is unfolding here. A spiritual life anchored in God’s Word, nurtured through faithful prayer, and ignited by the Holy Spirit fosters ongoing growth and lifelong commitment to faith. Many residents experience the culmination of their journeys here at Maryville Care, and I feel an immense pride as I hold my torch high, allowing the light we have received to shine brightly for our church and community.

Thank you for joining me on this journey through my chaplain heart.

Sending my love and respect to each of you.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Feb. 2 – The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, Candlemas

Feb. 2 is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, Candlemas. The Mass on this day includes the blessing of candles for the coming year, thus the name – Candlemas.

The practice of blessing the candles came about in the fifth century. Originally it was for blessing the candles used in the church, but, now, parishioners also bring candles to Mass that day to be blessed.
