The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon join the global Catholic community in mourning the passing of Pope Francis. A shepherd of compassion, humility, and justice, Pope Francis reminded the world of the enduring power of faith in action. His life and papacy called each of us to live with mercy and care for the vulnerable, and to build a Church rooted in love.
Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis reminded us that our lives are meant to serve others. His words and actions encouraged the Church to be more welcoming, more compassionate, and more connected to the needs of the world.
“Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruit. The sun does not shine on itself… Living for others is a rule of nature.”
— Pope Francis
In his words and witness, Pope Francis taught us that service to others is not only our duty, but our path to holiness.
The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon are in prayer for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. As we mourn the Pope’s passing, we offer a novena in our morning and evening prayers and have Masses offered for him. Our SSMO-sponsored ministries will fly our flags at half-mast for the nine days of mourning.
May we honor Pope Francis’s legacy by continuing to live lives of service, rooted in love and community.
