Shion Yamakawa
Violin
Violin | Shion Yamakawa is an active violinist in the Portland area, originally from Fukuoka, Japan. Currently, she serves as a concertmaster and violinist with multiple orchestras in Portland. In addition, Shion plays with the Vancouver Symphony in Washington, and is a member of Columbia River Strings.
Shion had the privilege of studying violin with Carrie Rehkopf, Jae-In Shin, Tomás Cotik, Carol Sindell, Scott Flavin and Vali Phillips. Moreover, she has extensive training in Alexander Technique, under the guidance of Eve Bernfeld and Rebecca Robbins. She received a Masters of Music in violin performance at Portland State University, and a Bachelors of Music in Music Education in Instrumental Specialization at Central Washington University, and an Associate of Arts at Seattle Central Community College. Her education and musical pursuits would not have been possible without the generous support of endowed scholarships and grants.
