Owen Hofmann-Smith
Orchestra Director and Music Theory Teacher
Orchestra Director and Music Theory | Owen Hofmann-Smith is a musician who was born and raised in Portland. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Education and his Master of Music in Conducting, from Portland State University. He has played cello since the 5th grade and participated in the major youth symphonies in the area, such as PYP and MYS. In addition to his experience with strings and classical music, he also has extensive training and experience in choral music, folk, rock and jazz. Owen also plays string bass, bass guitar, guitar, viola da gamba, and has training and professional experience as an operatic singer.
He currently performs with various ensembles including directing the Liedertafel Harmonie of the German American Society of Portland, playing cello for Columbia River Strings and Shelter Music, among others. He is also co-owner of Sound Reflections, an event and DJ company. He has been teaching at Valley Catholic since 2022.
