World Day of the Poor was established by Pope Francis as a Roman Catholic observance in 2016. Pope Leo XIV declared the theme for the 2025 observance to be “You are my Hope” – the message and theme encourages Christians to see people who are poor as central figures of the Gospel and to work for justice and structural change.
