Sister Sara Goggin

Sister Sara Goggin is the daughter of John and Dorothy (Doggett) Goggin. She was born in Townsend, Montana.

She first encountered the spirit and spirituality of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon at Holy Cross School (Portland, Oregon) where she was graced by the influence of Sr. Clare McCann, Sr. Loretta Merzenich, Sr. Noreen Orazio, and Sr. Ina Marie Nosack. Graduation from St. Mary of the Valley (Valley Catholic) was followed by her entrance into the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon.

Pursuing degrees in education, Sister Sara attended Marylhurst College (University), Portland State University and the University of Oregon. The majority of Sister Sara’s education ministry has been in high schools: St. Mary of the Valley (Valley Catholic) in Beaverton, Oregon and Regis in Stayton, Oregon. She also served at Holy Cross/Archbishop Murphy (Everett, Washington), Eastside Catholic (Bellevue, Washington) and Bishop Alemany (Mission Hills, California).

At Bishop Alemany, students put faith into action. Funding their service by recycling, they cook and serve weekly dinners and sack lunches for 130 guests at a winter homeless shelter. In the Santa Clarita Valley, they build homes for veterans through Habitat for Humanity.

Sister Sara is deeply appreciative of the years of support, prayer, and caring by the SSMO community, by her cousins and, most especially, by her siblings (and their families): Denise (and Gary) Smigaj and Jayne (and John) Lofing.
