Sister Thuy Doan
I was born and grew up in Vietnam. My family came to the U.S. as political refugees in 2002. I have been asked this question many times: “Why did you choose religious life?” At each stage of my life, I have had a different answer according to my experience of living in a religious community. As a young 18-year-old girl, I thought that choosing religious life might provide a better education.
After I made my first vows, I realized that choosing religious life meant making a covenant to live for God and others. After my final vows, I totally believed that choosing religious life meant to transform myself to be more like Jesus and to live radically for God and others.
After 25 years of living in religious community, my life is filled with grace. God is the One who has chosen me and directed me through the Sisters in my community. I feel loved and supported in living with the Sisters at the Motherhouse.
In my ministry I enjoy working with little children; I commit myself to bring the love of Jesus to them and their families. On weekends, I am studying for a Master of Pastoral Ministry degree. I love learning theology. This is preparation for my future ministry.
My core value for living is taken from the Prophet Micah 6: 8, “What does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
