The Right Chemistry: New science building promotes curriculum resources & opportunities for student success
On a beautiful September evening, the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon (SSMO) campus community came together to dedicate the new Valley Catholic Science Building.
The ceremony, held on Sept. 7, featured a blessing by Archbishop Emeritus John Vlazny and a ribbon cutting led by SSMO Superior General Sr. Charlene Herinckx. Sisters, students, faculty, staff, and donors then toured the state-of-the-art facility, which includes two biology classroom/labs, two chemistry classroom/labs, a physics classroom/lab and a greenhouse.
The addition enhances Valley Catholic’s award-winning programs and provide students with cutting-edge facilities for innovative educational experiments and prepare them for college and careers in science and technology.
AP Physics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, as well as Human Physiology are offered as part of the high school science curriculum.
As Valley Catholic President Bob Weber noted, “The opening of the science building marks the completion of a remarkable decade of growth that includes the elementary and middle school building, the Valley Catholic Athletic Center and athletic field upgrades, as well as the renovation of Kelly Auditorium.” Weber added, “These projects will continue to have a significant impact on Valley Catholic students, faculty and the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon campus community for many years to come.”
The two-story, 13,000 square-foot building is located on the south side of the high school.
