The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon are celebrating their 140th anniversary by investing boldly in their long-standing ministry of education. Since 1886, the Sisters have shaped generations in the Tualatin Valley through purposeful prayer, education and health care.

Today, the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon are carrying their legacy forward in a powerful way. They have made a $1 million gift to the Valley Catholic School endowment. Their commitment helps to ensure that a Valley Catholic education is accessible to all who seek it.

“Education has always been at the heart of who we are. This gift is a celebration of our past and a promise to the future. We want to provide every student who desires a faith-filled education the opportunity to receive one.”

This transformational donation to the Valley Catholic School endowment supports students through increased financial assistance, enhances staff development opportunities and assures continued programmatic enrichment. The Sisters are providing this generous gift to help open doors for more families and strengthen Valley Catholic’s ability to serve students for generations to come.

“My entire family is extremely appreciative of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon and the opportunities they have provided us. All three of my children are taking advanced classes, involved in wonderful music programs and actively playing sports year-round,” said a long-time VCS parent. “All of this is possible thanks to the Sisters’ generosity through their legacy scholarship and financial aid programs.”

Valley Catholic School is the embodiment of the mission of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon. It is a place where academic excellence, spiritual formation and service come together to form compassionate, confident leaders. By strengthening the endowment, the Sisters are offering financial support and a promise – a promise to support today’s students, uplift families and shape lives in the Tualatin Valley for decades to come.

As the Sisters celebrate their Valiant 140-year milestone, they are also extending an invitation. Women who are discerning a call to religious life are encouraged to explore a vocation with the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon – join the Sisters during Thursday Holy Hour, connect with their Vocations Committee, visit their campus or join in on a Come and See Retreat. The future of this mission depends on courageous women who are willing to say, “Yes!”
