Save the Date: VCS Gala November 14
This past March, VCHS students were invited to submit an 11″x17″ art piece that would be used as background art for the 2026 Gala posters and collateral. Students were prompted with the question, “What does the gift of a Valley education look like to you?” They were asked not to include text, as the event details would be added later. We wanted the students to focus on the creative approach for their inspiration.
Below are the top 3 finalists with a description of their inspiration. We encourage you to read the caption for each entry.
With so many well-crafted entries from photography, graphic art and illustration, it was a challenge to narrow it down to just three. A big thank you to all of the students for adding an extra project on top of their normal school work. Each submission was original, reflective and inspiring in itself.
Now we are asking members of the Valley Catholic School community to vote on the three finalists. Each finalist will receive a gift card to a well-known art supply store in town. The image with the most votes will soon see their artwork around campus and be featured at this fall’s VCS Gala.
Here are the finalists

Lady wisdom is inspired by many factors, one of them being that while we were studying the book of wisdom in my salvation history class. I found it interesting that wisdom was portrayed as a woman because at the time most Bible stories were centered around men, so that is why there’s a woman going up the stairs. The stairs in this piece are meant to represent time and hardships. Something I couldn’t ignore in this piece was the representation of God, as a Catholic I believe that God has done many things for me in my life and that he continues to guide me and others through the journey of life, therefore I made God be the light and as it can be seen in the piece the woman is looking at him because her journey just begun. I also tried to make this piece be a sub-realistic artwork which is why I decided to turn the rest of the students into sport balls, simply because I believe that valley catholic demonstrates a lot of school spirit when it comes to cheering the school team in competitions. Not only that but many valley catholic students showcase various talents in sports and I can see that they have a strong passion for what they do. Finally the books and the papers next to the girl represent the basic things you learn in high school because I believe that finding your purpose or passion in life begins with having a good knowledge about the things surrounding us.
My idea was that we are all connected and without each other we cannot be completed hence the puzzle. It represents that there are multiple different sides to how our community works and that it is well rounded making sure everyone feels connected and at home.
Personally I really enjoy taking long exposure photos, which ended in the capturing of this photo. While abstract, I think that the light itself and the path it takes represents the light and direction that Valley has given me. Every day at valley has a different curve or twist to it, leaving us to find our own paths, and the light represents the underlying foundation of the Sisters and teachers who help light our ways.
