Letter from the Superior General

Sister Michael Francine Vftd 683x1024
Superior General Sister Michael Francine

Blessings to you, my dear friends and families.

Welcome to the season of Lent. Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, commencing the 40-day season of Lent in which we practice prayer, fasting and almsgiving. We develop the discipline of Lent that prepares us for the great day of Easter on April 20.

Lent is the time to examine some of the aspects of our lives that we would like to change or improve.

SSMO Vocation Newsletter – March 2025

The Lenten season is about to begin. As Pilgrims of Hope, we can look to Mary as one who always kept hope alive in her heart. In a small reflection book, “Hope from the Cross,” by Cardinal Basil Hume, we find these words in the section about Mary: “‘Woman, here is your son. Son, here is your mother.’ John represented us all at that moment… Mary was Mother, now, of the whole Church, as it was coming to birth while His life was ending. It was a last thought for her welfare…” With Mary as our example of living in hope, let us enter the Lenten season fervently and with hope.

Blessings,
Sr. Charlene

Highlighted by SSMO General Chapter

March is SSMO Heritage Month—a time for the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon and their entire campus community to reflect on and celebrate nearly 140 years of joyful and compassionate service to God.

This year also marks the SSMO General Chapter. Every five years the Sisters meet together to set the congregation’s direction for the next five years and elect the new SSMO Leadership Team

The Sisters ask for and sincerely appreciate your prayers for wisdom and guidance during this very special month.

Weston Vcs Students

The Power of We provides the gift of opportunity for Valley Catholic students

For 122 years, the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon have been dedicated to the gift of education. Today, we have a special opportunity to continue that mission through the Weston Challenge. The OCF Joseph E. Weston Foundation will generously match every dollar raised—up to $115,000—for tuition assistance. That means $230,000 to help more students access a Valley Catholic education.

The Weston challenge ends Sept. 15—don’t wait! Make your gift today and give VCS students the gift of opportunity.
